ನವದೆಹಲಿ: ಅಪ್ರತಿಮ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮೆರೆದ ಭಾರತೀಯ ವಾಯುಪಡೆಯ ಮಾರ್ಷಲ್ ಅರ್ಜನ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ (98) ಇಂದು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಫಲಕಾರಿಯಾಗದೇ ವಿಧಿವಶರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಇಂದು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ತೀವ್ರ ಅನಾರೋಗ್ಯದಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅರ್ಜುನ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಆರ್ಮಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಮಾರ್ಷಲ್ ಅರ್ಜನ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ 1965ರ ಭಾರತ- ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪ್ರತಿಮ ಸಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಮೆರೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ವಾಯುಪಡೆಯ ಮೊದಲ ಸರ್ವಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಮಾರ್ಷಲ್ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆಗೂ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಅರ್ಜನ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ದಾಖಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ನರೇಂದ್ರ ಮೋದಿ, ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಸಚಿವೆ ನಿರ್ಮಲಾ ಸೀತಾರಾಮನ್ ಹಾಗೂ ವಾಯುಪಡೆ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥ ಬಿಎಸ್ ಧನೋಯಾ ಅವರು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. 1965 ರ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ವಾಯುಪಡೆಯ ನೇತೃತ್ವವಹಿಸಿದ್ದ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಅವರು, ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನದ ಮಿಲಿಟರಿ ನೆಲೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಭಾರತೀಯ ವಾಯುಪಡೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ ದಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
